RMG (Rapid Mixer Granulator)

The RMG is designed for the high-speed blending of dry powders followed by wet granulation. It transforms fine powders into uniform, dense granules by adding a liquid binder, which is essential for producing high-quality tablets and capsules.

While a Planetary Mixer is better suited for wet mixing of thick pastes, the RMG uses High Shear forces. It is much faster (usually 4–5 times faster) and produces more uniform, spherical granules with better flow properties, which are critical for high-speed tablet compression.

Impeller: Located at the bottom, it mixes the dry powder and distributes the binder solution evenly by creating a whirling, tumbling motion.

Chopper: Mounted on the side of the bowl, it rotates at very high speeds (up to 3000 RPM) to break down large lumps (agglomerates) into smaller, uniform granules.

The end-point is typically determined by monitoring the Ampere (Amp) Load on the HMI or by the "Squeeze Test." Modern automated RMGs allow you to set a specific time or energy consumption limit in the PLC to ensure batch-to-batch consistency.
